My Story
When I was growing up in Michigan, I often found myself talking with friends about their sense of God. Even as a child, I was a spiritual director! But God has certainly taken me down some interesting paths in the meantime.
In college, I wanted to become a writing professor and received a BA in writing. At the same time, I became curious about theology and took a few classes. I found myself drawn to learning more about my faith--the more I learned about God's grace, the more I experienced deep healing in my soul, knowing that I was loved and accepted as I was.
I knew I wanted to continue studying theology, so I enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary, thinking perhaps I'd teach. Then I learned about spiritual direction in one of my classes. I immediately felt drawn to giving and receiving spiritual direction, amazed that I could speak to someone about personal experiences of God's guidance and grace!
Yet, I wasn't able to pursue formal training as a director for some time. After graduating with a doctorate in Practical Theology with a focus on spiritual formation, I found a job as a writing professor. I taught writing in Princeton University's writing program for nearly five years. Near the end of my contract, I was able to enroll in a spiritual direction training program. I also became a pastor and currently serve a Methodist congregation in New Jersey. Now I am focused on my family, my ministry, and spiritual direction.
